The sixth annual World Refrigeration Day takes place on June 26th to celebrate the contribution that refrigeration and cooling makes to our societies.
Supported globally by industry, professional groups, scientific and engineering associations, as well as by governments and individuals, World Refrigeration Day is an international campaign established to raise the profile of the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump sector, and it focuses attention on the significant role that the industry and its technology play in modern life and society.
This year’s theme is “Temperature Matters,” placing a focus on exploring the broad and vital impacts of the industry, extending beyond efficient cooling and heating to encompass aspects of indoor environmental quality.
This year, June 26th also marks the bicentenary of the birth of Lord Kelvin, whose legacy includes the absolute temperature scale bearing his name.
The “Temperature Matters” campaign examines the fundamental laws of thermodynamics in an era characterized by escalating energy demands and climate change. Activities will emphasize how efficient temperature control fosters sustainable development and human comfort, while mitigating environmental impacts.
“ASHRAE acknowledges the vital role of heat pump technologies in global low-carbon heating strategies, endorsing their advancement and implementation to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and enhance energy efficiency in the built environment,” stated 2023-24 ASHRAE president Ginger Scoggins, in a media release.
“This year’s World Refrigeration Day theme emphasizes the crucial importance of efficient temperature control for sustainable development and human comfort, spotlighting the industry’s contributions to preserving food and medicine supply chains, ensuring effective heating, and creating healthier, more comfortable environments with improved air quality.”
