Funding opportunity returns! New GICB intake for retrofits and new builds

The Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities announced a new intake for for retrofit (and new-build) applications through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. To be eligible for funding consideration, all retrofit projects are encouraged to achieve at least 25% in energy efficiency improvements compared to the building’s baseline energy consumption. Projects with greater energy efficiency improvements will receive a higher score and are more likely to be selected for funding.

U.S. DOE unveils concise, 3-point National Definition for zero-emissions buildings

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has developed a National Definition of a “zero emissions building”: a building that is highly energy efficient, does not emit GHGs directly from energy use, and is powered solely by clean energy. To that end, DOE has published “National Definition of a Zero Emissions Building, Part 1: Operational Emissions from Energy Use, Version 1”, which sets criteria for a building with zero emissions from energy used for building operations.

RECALL: Over 700,000 Best Lighting high-bay fixtures

In a joint recall with Health Canada and the U.S. CPSC, Best Lighting Products is recalling high-bay LED light fixtures due to fire hazard. At issue: Plastic pins securing the LED board can degrade, allowing the energized board to come loose and contact the lens or combustible materials, posing a fire hazard. As of July 3, 2024, the company has received no reports of fire or injury in Canada.
